Welcome to: Shoot It Yourself - Finding a Filmer
Finding a Cameraman
Asking your friends to film your wedding video sounds like a HUGE responsibility.
Its not.
If you consider that most people take about 150 photographs at a wedding, asking a mate to shoot 5 minutes of footage instead isn't too much to ask.
The things to remember are:
- you don't have to film the WHOLE day in fact, we strongly advise you don't! Film with a purpose for 10 minutes and then put the camera away.
- There is no format to follow so you can't screw it up. If you miss the shot of the bride and groom exchanging vows, don't sweat it. Get them smooching afterwards!
- there is a lot of standing and sitting around at weddings and the video camera is a great distraction - just ask people to show you their favourite dance moves and you've got TV gold right there!
- Your best friends will want to give you something super special for your big day that won't fade like a set of matching hand towels. This way they can pitch in on something that is PRICELESS without having to cough up a fortune!
- You must know someone who likes video cameras and would quite like a job on the day?!
- AND failing all of that...a traditional wedding video is a series of pretty shots edited to music.
The BBC gave video cameras to a bunch of monkeys to record their behaviour when no one was watching in the Chimp Cam Project (www.chimpcam.com) Despite eating three of the cameras, the monkeys shot a pretty good programme - how hard can it be!?
